For me, skiing in Switzerland – or really anywhere in Europe – has been a lifelong dream. I’ve grown up skiing since I was small, but it wasn’t until high school and college that I began to go more frequently. Now, I view it as something we can do as a family that everyone can enjoy. Joseph got on skis at 2 years for the very first time – but I think that lasted all of 2 minutes. Last year when he was 3, he made it through a couple of lessons and was actually doing pretty well getting done with assistance. This year, he really showed improvement, especially after being put in Swiss ski school for 6 full days. He had his buds from school Alex and Sebastien, which also helped. They took the kids out for about 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoons to ski on an obstacle course…. we would sometimes spy from behind a tree because the cuteness of it all was really hard to resist. Bottom line was that Joseph absolutely loved it. IMG_8752
We drove to Switzerland…. almost 12 hours driving with a 1 night stop on the way there and the way back. We went with friends of ours – the Hindles – who we met through the International School here – and are the coolest people I could ever think to spend a week with on the ski mountain. If you understand that Apres really needs to begin around 3 pm, you are our kind of people. We stayed at a small hotel right near the telecabine (ah hem… gondola) at the base called Edelweiss. We booked it for the location but it also didn’t hurt that it was the hottest Apres scene with live music on the daily. The people, the food, and the SKIING were all very lovely and we’re looking forward to going back some day.
